Shuri Castle

Shuri Castle, located on a hilltop overlooking Naha, is thought to date from the 14th century. For 450 years it was the royal court of the Ryukyu Kingdom and in 2000 it was designated a Unesco World Heritage Site. Sites of interest include the Stone Gate of Sonohyan-utaki; the Shikina-en Gardens with its Chinese-style pond and bridge; the Kankaimon ‘welcome’ gate; and the 721kg Bridge of Nations Bell.
